On Holy Ground

And the Angel of the Lord appeared to him in a flame of fire out of the midst of a bush; and he looked and, the bush was burning, yet it was not consumed. And Moses said, I will turn aside and see this great sight, why the bush is not burnt". (Do sumac grow on Mount Horeb? maples?) When the Lord saw that he turned aside to see (not everyone does) God called to him... "Put off your shoes from your feet, for the place on which you are standing is holy ground. ( Exodus 3:2-5)


This passage frequently comes to mind when I look at this country in the Fall of the year.


It seems strange to me to call Israel, a nation that is so remote from us both historically and geographically, "the Holy Land". I understand the usage but this glorious land around us in no less holy to me - thus the title of this exhibition.
