Our Home on Mother Earth

This 24 X 36 canvas is called Riot of Leaves Underfoot.

I am not among those who believe that humans will ever find another planet home somewhere "out there" in another solar system. Our feet are firmly planted here; on the planet we call ‘the earth’.

This glorious litter is on the way to becoming earth. The guy whose toes you see planted at the bottom of the frame - that would be me - will also return to the earth. I have always thought that those who see humanity’s future as somewhere else are deluded. That is not because of the insurmountable challenges of travel in space-time. The nearest star is four and a half light-years away, for heaven's sake!

And it is not because it is impossible that there could ever be a time when humanity would come to a place where nations would share the resources and energy required and turn them to such an undertaking. Not going to happen.

It is because we cannot be transplanted; we are rooted here. We have co-evolved with every other living thing around us. We are not an independent species, nor are we independent entities; we are colonies of living things, intimately related to the same organisms that will return us to the earth.
